After the county built a retaining wall to divert runoff around the cemetery, we proceeded to install concrete bases into the ground for the headstones to be placed. We used rocks to hold them upright until the preservation mortar dried around it. All with the help of Steve Plutte from the Park County Cemetery Board, in which our President joined in representaion of the Price/Tyler cemetery in the Historic District of Shawnee. She will be able to acquire a budget from the county to maintain the headstones and the cemetery.

A proposed budget for the Shawnee Cemetery for the fiscal year of 2025 was submitted to the county commissioners in August.
The budget was requested for maintenance and materials for the historical fencing to replace the barbed wire fence.
I believe we may hear about the approval of our budget in December or January. BOD and members will be updated when that happens.
Thank you to all volunteers who helped us with our Shawnee Cemetery Renovation Project, in which these 19th century headstones were saved.
