Cemetery Project
The Price-Tyler Cemetery is a Historic Landmark in the heart of the Shawnee Historical District. It contains multiple 19th century headstones that we work to preserve and maintain. Rhonda Dusatko, a long time board member and volunteer, discovered buried headstones and excavated them so that we could reset them in a preservational mortar. Special thanks to Steve Plutte from the Park County Cemetery Board.

FEATURED HISTORY

John Parson's Gold Coins
Bill Douthet visited Time Capsule last week and told me the story of John Parsons and his mobile mint that he built in the back of his wagon. In 1861, after the Park County gold rush, Parsons traveled around minting $2.50 and $5.00 gold coins from the gold that the Colorado prospectors acquired from their claims. We don't know how many that he minted, but their are only a handful still in existence, making the modern value of them $200,000 to $300,000. It is likely that the banking industry melted down most into ingots.
"Oro" is spanish for gold, but it is speculated that Parsons wanted to solidify his business in Oro City, Colorado...
